About Shane

Shane experienced his first taste of entrepreneurship at the age of 8, when he purchased a Limousine heifer named “Cookie”, as his first 4-H project.  At that time, he had no idea it would develop into a premier Angus cattle operation with genetics sold throughout the world, including offspring from a National Western Stock Show Champion, a show Shane qualifies as the Wimbledon or Masters of the cattle industry. He was a natural at the business aspect of the operation and started investing the profits into the stock market with his first stock pick at age 12.

Having spent his high-school years running the cattle operation, he divested during college, thereafter spending his time with his finance professors, reading a great deal of books, and flying to investment conferences all over the country. The latter included his first Berkshire Hathaway Annual Meeting where he took the red eye to Omaha, NE on a Friday evening, proceeded to take a taxi straight to the Century Link Center where he arrived at 1:00 AM, and stood in line until the doors opened at 7:00 AM. After enjoying Buffett and Munger answer questions for six hours, Shane flew directly home, eventually falling asleep while reading his signed copy of Peter Kaufman’s Poor Charlie’s Almanack: The Wit and Wisdom of Charlie Munger. His fanatic enthusiasm doesn’t stop there: he can quote the words of Seneca, Marcus Aurelius, Ray Dalio, Rudyard Kipling and Warren Buffett on a dime.

Shane’s framework for the business-clientele relationship is his ‘their success is our success’ mentality; he  firmly believes the greatest relationships are mutually symbiotic. Shane’s overwhelming life principle is that he is a “journeyman of life” with his foundation built by the “dogged incremental constant progress” growth-mindset.

Work/life balance for Shane is like a flywheel; his enthusiasm for life transfers over to work and vice versa. Shane has the travel bug and when he isn’t at Carson, you can find him traveling the world, immersing himself in other cultures. Outside of travel, Shane enjoys spending quality time with family and friends. Occasionally, Shane will get invigorated to plug some adrenaline into his life by skydiving, hiking, endurance running, weightlifting, or driving performance cars. His hobby to-do list includes fencing, piano, and writing a book on work and life principles.

Shane graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration with concentrations in Finance and Economics from Loyola University Maryland. Currently Shane is on the Board of Directors of The United Way of Washington County and is a Rotarian of the Downtown Hagerstown Rotary.
